The Mannequin

In collaboration with The King´s Players

'The Mannequin' is Das Stücks current production. It will be performed at the Edingburgh Fringe Festival. Catch it during one of the London Previews in April and July!

From the streets of Soho to the drag bars of Montmartre, the frantic lives of these artists all revolve around ‘The Mannequin’. Models, designers, lovers, and writers all desire attention and validation in lives, only to be left feeling inadequate and alone. Throughout the course of two evenings they find solace in each other and their work leading to closure. In this multimedia production, a piece of new writing with original film and costume, relationships to the queer body and relationships within the arts industry are explored in a burst of film projection and sensory immersion.

Die Physiker

March 2018

Das Stück had the honour of producing the KCL German Society´s annual German Play. They chose to interpret Friedrich Dürrenmatt´s classic Die Physiker.

This satiric drama deals with questions of scientific ethics and humanity's ability to handle its intellectual responsibilities. We follow three physicists who are trapped in a mental institution, guarded by the Doctor Mathilde von Zahnd, as they try and resolve these fundamental issues.

A sense of restlessness and alienation pervades the work of Die Brucke, the German art movement which surfaced at the start of the 20th century. In this play, we follow the key founders and members of the group from the confines of baroque Dresden, to the sterile clinics of the Alps and up to Berlin, notorious womb of the avant garde. The links between the artistic and the political are explored, as well as the representation of women in the arts in this piece of new writing.

Does mental illness go hand in hand with creativity? Or is this notion overly romanticised? Can we unzip our previous skins and leave everything behind entirely for a new identity in a new town? Does art really mirror life?
